For clinicians
Reviewing a patient's Guardian data export
A patient or their family has asked you to review data from the Guardian wearable safety system. This page explains what the export contains, what it does not contain, and how to interpret it.
What Guardian is
Guardian is a consumer wearable safety application, not a medical device. It pairs with a consumer smartwatch (not a medical-grade monitor) and uses the device's built-in accelerometer and optical heart-rate sensor to detect patterns associated with falls and dangerous vital-sign changes.
Guardian is not CE-marked or FDA-cleared as a medical device. Its outputs should be treated as observational data from a consumer device, not as clinical measurements.
What the export contains
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Incident log | Timestamped record of each stage transition (S0→S1→S2 etc.) with UTC timestamps. |
| Heart-rate readings | Optical PPG from the paired smartwatch. Accuracy varies by device, skin tone, and movement. Not equivalent to ECG. |
| Accelerometer events | Raw magnitude and axis data at the moment of detection. Not calibrated for clinical use. |
| GPS coordinates | Location at time of incident. Accuracy depends on device and environment (±5–50 m typical). |
| Medical summary | Patient-entered: medications, conditions, blood type, GP contact. Not verified by Guardian. |
| Circle response log | Which circle members were notified, when they acknowledged, and any notes they added. |
Interpreting the data
Fall detection events
A Guardian fall detection event indicates that the device detected an acceleration signature consistent with a fall, followed by a period of reduced movement. It does not confirm that a fall occurred, does not indicate injury severity, and does not distinguish between a fall and other high-impact activities.
Heart-rate anomalies
Guardian flags heart-rate readings outside a configured range (default: below 40 bpm or above 150 bpm sustained for 30 seconds). Consumer optical sensors have known accuracy limitations, particularly during movement. A flagged reading should prompt clinical assessment, not be treated as a confirmed arrhythmia.
False alarms
The export includes all events, including those dismissed by the wearer at the S2 check-in stage. A high rate of dismissed events may indicate the detection thresholds need adjustment, or that the wearer's activity patterns are triggering false positives.
Requesting an export
The account holder can generate a structured PDF or JSON export from the account dashboard. The export covers a selectable date range and includes all incident records, heart-rate logs, and the medical summary as entered. If you need data in a specific format for integration with a clinical system, contact the account holder — Guardian does not currently support direct clinical system integration.
